Great facilities available at the Mapleton Road car park for those who want to hire bikes etc and the trail is very achievable and I’m sure would suit those with mobility issues too! So many options of routes to take and some great refreshments stops too. Tissington itself is beautiful and the walk over Tissington Hill and down into Dove Valley and Thorpe Cloud was well worth the detour….

So today we decided to hit the ode tissington trail in Ashbourne with the dogs for a bit of a circular walk which took in the picturesque village of Mapleton and offered us some light beverages at the public house en route. Altogether reckon we probably walked around 4 miles ish as we added in ashbourne town centre on the way back to the car park! Loads of different walks lead off the ode trail to different locations and you can also hire bikes to explore the area! Tell you what pal, we had all seasons of weather today! Sunshine 🌞, wind 💨, rain 🌧 the full shebang visited us today! Had to keep the ode dogs on the leads through the majority of the fields as they were rammed packed of sheep 🐑 and i didnt realise that dogs like sheep poo 💩 to eat, my god i had to keep pulling them i think ode Luna the wappy mutt must of ate her body weight of sheep 💩 i dont know whats in it but she loved it, all i know is that now shes a bit smelly 💩 Love the tunnel which leads you through to the ode town centre, proper old skool in that bad boy! What a lovely ramble, and the footpaths are very well signposted. Well done you Up'ards & Down'ards keep up the fantastic preservation work for us hikers 🚶‍♂️👏👍

We came in from Ashbourne and hired bikes at the start of the trail. The outward journey is inclined so harder than the return journey. The paths are well kept and the views are stunning. Stop of points along the way can break up the trail. You can go off the trail to Carsington waters too. We went up to Parsley Hay where the other bike hire shop is located. There is a pub off the trail as well as food and drinks stops. It is a lovely trail for cycling or walking and we really enjoyed doing 27 plus miles for the afternoon, followed with a few drinks back in Ashbourne

It is a great trail, the route from Ashbourne is a steady 1.5 - 2% gradient all the way to Parsley Hay so don’t be fooled in to going too hard or it’ll wear you out fast. Fantastic view and wildlife all the way but it can get busy on holidays and weekends which will slow your bike ride down.
