Took my grandson to The Ulster Transport Museum , we both enjoyed our visit imensely. There are a good range of vehicles displayed at the Museum and are located throughout the different areas, lots of opportunities to board certain exhibits to get a real feel for times past. We both thoroughly enjoyed stopping for a bite to eat at the station buffet where we puchased pizza , baguette and two drinks plus two cakes ( delicious ) and reasonably priced to boot. We were served by a lovely young lady who was able to seve us promptly and happy to converse with us both . All staff were polite curteous and knowledgeable , thank you to you all a fantastic team !
As someone with minimal expectations entering the museum, they were quickly replaced with exceptional excitement to explore the area. The museum consists of 2 buildings, well sectioned and arranged vehicles, and even information on the titanic. Each if interactive with clear signs of you are encouraged to climb aboard or not. Whilst I was expecting a room full of trains, I was welcomed with stations and access to inside many of the compartments and carriages.
Been meaning to take in this museum for ages but its outside if the city centre and I never made it til now. Great collection of trains of all types, that you can enter and sit in cabs and carriages. Well laid out, a great section on whitestar lines ships and another section on old trams. The car section is very interesting and the second building houses agricultural machinery, planes motorbikes and my favourite bit, horse drawn things of all kinds. Not to forget the delorean. A wonderful place to spend an afternoon. Good parking and public transport links.
Absolutely excellent. I was enthralled with the history and information available. So many times the word "first" appeared . The guides had excellent knowledge and a very pleasant attitude. As the cafe was closed on the day we visited, we were allowed to enter the Folk Park and have some lunch there before beginning our tour. I would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again in the future
The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum exceeded all my expectations. What I thought would be a few hours looking at old vehicles turned into a fascinating journey through the history of Ulster and Ireland. The transport collection is simply amazing. Seeing the royal carriages, vintage cars, historic trains and old trams up close was like travelling through time. The exhibits are beautifully preserved and give a real appreciation for how people travelled and lived in different eras. One of the biggest surprises for me was learning about the story of Short Brothers. I had heard the name before, but I never realised the scale of their contribution to aviation history. Moments like this are what make the museum so special—there is always something unexpected waiting to be discovered. As someone involved in the textile industry, I was also delighted to learn more about Ulster's linen heritage. Hearing about the damask linen manufacturer from Lisburn was particularly interesting. Sometimes a small detail can suddenly connect pieces of history you have heard about elsewhere and give you a much deeper understanding of the past. This museum is far more than a collection of old vehicles. It is a place full of stories, discoveries and surprises. I left with a greater appreciation of Ulster's history and would happily visit again. Highly recommended.
