It’s completely free to enter, making it a perfect place for family outings. Kids will be absolutely excited by the massive fin whale skeleton at the entrance! The museum is smartly split into two main levels: the upper floor features a stunning mezzanine with bright, modern displays, while the lower floor houses deep-dive collections into various lineages. The collection of vertebrate species is world-class. You’ll find an impressive array of fish species, illustrating the transition from sea to land, alongside a diverse section on birds. Whether marvelling at the intricate skeletal structures of bats or preserved specimens of exotic wildlife, the museum provides a profound look at the tree of life. It’s an educational and thrilling adventure for all ages!
A must-visit museum in Cambridge, opened in 2018. The space is not huge, but there are many different and sometimes outstanding exhibits. There is a café on the top floor with a focus on healthy options. The staff are friendly. The museum is free and far less crowded than the Natural History Museum in London.
Today I visited the Museum of Zoology and honestly, it was an amazing experience 🦏🦍🐋🦕 I was really surprised by the level of detail in the fossils and skeleton displays. Seeing so many real specimens up close for the first time made it even more special. From massive marine skeletons hanging above to the detailed collections of shells, animals, and evolutionary exhibits, everything was so well presented and interesting. The museum has a calm and modern atmosphere, making it a great place to explore and learn at your own pace. I especially loved how it shows the history of animals and evolution in such a simple but fascinating way. It’s a perfect place for anyone interested in animal history, biology, or fossils — and even if you’re not, you’ll still enjoy it. Plus, it’s free, which makes it even better! Overall, a really good experience and definitely worth visiting if you’re in Cambridge❤️
Took the kids here on a whim on a cold Sunday in March and had a lovely time. Really fantastic displays over two v different floors, the kids loved the bones, the taxidermy, and the friendly and informative staff. One minor tip: the cafeteria is closed on Sundays - and they won't let you sit up there to eat your own food either. So if you do take a packed lunch, be prepared to eat it outside. Other than that, a fun and educational day for the children. I'm sure we'll be back again.
This museum is very impressive. There are so many fossils, animal specimens and skeleton bones. It is full of educational materials for children. Even if you are not interested in animals, the setting is just so impactful.
