Pretty well maintained gardens. You will need a local guide (or use your Ai assistant) to get the real atmosphere to what the castle once was. Wallingford is a nice town, worth a visit.

Free entrance and extensive grounds. Ruins only. But a nice walk by the Thames. Nearest car parking is extortionate £6.50 for any period, even on Sundays. So park near the cemetery and walk southwards. But the gate is often closed and be warned it closes too early in winter (3pm).

Not much remains but the grounds are very pretty and it's always nice to have something as historic as a ruined castle in your riverside town. Plenty to do for the children and plenty of benches to sit and watch them enjoy themselves. Free to enter via a small doorway and limited parking spaces are directly outside the grounds.
