★★★★★ An Absolute Masterpiece of Nature! I have been visiting Wasdale for many years now, and I am always amazed that it remains just as lovely and completely unspoilt as it was on my very first visit. If you want to escape the crowds and find true tranquility, this is the place to go. Because of its remoteness, it feels entirely untouched by the typical tourist bustle seen elsewhere in the Lake District—offering a level of quietness and peace that is incredibly hard to find these days. With far fewer tourists around, you can fully appreciate the incredible history and scenery here, including the famous trilogy of extremes: England's deepest lake (Wast Water), its highest mountain (Scafell Pike), and its smallest church (St Olaf's). Plus, learning about the local folklore of the "biggest liar" competition always adds such a wonderful bit of character to the valley. It is also the absolute greatest location to start the walk up Scafell Pike. There are various great campsites scattered around the area, a beautiful river to explore, and stunning, sweeping views everywhere you look. To top it all off, there is nothing better than ending a day of exploring with a pint at the nice pub at the end of the valley. A perfect 5-star experience every single time!

What a beautiful place to be, no overnight parking, free fishing and before you go there you haveto be an expert on reverse your vehicle as roads are narrow.

Stunning! Can get quite busy, but worth a visit for sure. Not far from walks up and near Scafell Pike, so definitely worth a stop off for a cuppa with a view. A bit further along the road is the main carpark for Scafell Pike walkers, free for National Trust members.

I love wast water (been visiting it since I was a child) because it’s generally a lot less busy than the other lakes my parents didn’t do crowds. And due to it being less flooded with tourists I think you are better able to fully embrace the unique natural serenity and beauty of Lake District. However it can seem to hang on to the clouds and gloom when the weather isn’t great and can be a touch oppressive.

Simply stunning. Fantastic views whichever way you look. Drive along lakeside, many passing places and spots to park. Visited off peak and barely saw another soul, aside from a few paddle boarders. Road approaching from Eskdale, road leads right along to car park for those wishing to climb Scafell Pike. Toilet facilities here too. The lake is definitely worth a visit. Tranquility & peace 😊
