Explore over 50 fascinating machines and historic exhibits in a Grade II* listed Victorian pumping station, with free entry for children and interactive water play.

Waterworks Museum in Hereford is housed in an impressive Grade II* listed Victorian building that originally served as the town's water pumping station. The museum has been welcoming visitors since 1974 and showcases an impressive collection of beam, hot air, gas and diesel engines, including the oldest working triple expansion steam engine in the UK. With over 50 machines on display, visitors can learn about the history of drinking water infrastructure and engineering innovation. Families with children will find plenty to engage young minds. The Waterpark is specifically designed for youngsters to interact with water through hands-on activities like lifting, pumping, filtering and squirting water. A museum trail helps children discover hidden frogs and participate in a water quiz, making learning fun and interactive. The museum also features WW2 replica rooms including an evacuee's bedroom and 1940s-style kitchen, as well as exhibits on firefighting history from horse-drawn engines through to WWII-era equipment. The venue is ideal for families of all ages, with free admission for children aged 0-16. An on-site café serves hot and cold drinks alongside homemade scones, cakes and savouries, and there's a shop to browse. The museum operates on selected operating days throughout the year when the historic steam pumps are brought to life, offering visitors the authentic experience of seeing these magnificent machines in action. Knowledgeable volunteer guides and engineers are on hand to share their expertise and enthusiasm.

Excellent little museum all about the introduction of clean drinking water for the local area and dozens of examples of the various pumps used. In addition to that there is a small WW2 exhibition with lots of items to see. There is a cafe too with a wonderful selection of yummy home made cakes. The whole museum is run entirely by volunteers all if whom are friendly and knowledgeable.

We visited the museum yesterday, not really knowing what to expect but it seemed an ideal choice as it's halfway between Cardiff and Pershore so a good place to meet up with family. We were all delighted with the choice! The museum really has something for everyone and shows a fascinating history of steam machines, the water industry and the people who were at the forefront of ensuring we can have clean water. The volunteers are amazing. It was especially good to talk to the lady who had gathered together so much memorabilia to create beautiful room settings depicting life in WW2. We all really enjoyed our visit and will come back again. Thank you all for what you are doing.

Fantastic day out with a 6 & 4 yr old! Staff were all lovely, no charge for children under 16 and only £5 per adult for all day entry. Really good mixture of things to look at and also things to press/pull/pump for the little (and big) ones. Really lovely setup and I'm pleased that we were able to support them. Cafe was excellent, very reasonably priced and the food was superb and all freshly made. We will happily visit again!
