Redruth, United Kingdom•4.5(213)•Country Park, Heritage Site, Nature Reserve

Explore a restored mining heritage site with scenic trails, historic engine houses, and family activity sheets across 5.1 hectares of reclaimed Cornish landscape.

Wheal Peevor Mine Site and Multi Use Trail is a transformed heritage destination set on reclaimed mining land near Redruth, Cornwall. The site was officially opened in January 2008 after extensive restoration work that safely reclaimed 12 mineshafts and preserved three Grade II listed Engine Houses. This once-derelict area now offers visitors a unique blend of industrial heritage, outdoor recreation, and natural beauty. The venue features a network of on-site tracks and off-site trails that guide visitors through spectacular mining landscapes, peaceful countryside, and areas of exceptional wildlife interest. Interpretation panels are strategically placed at features of interest to educate visitors about the site's mining history. Bespoke granite and timber way markers help navigate the routes. The site is connected to the Sustrans Coast to Coast Trail, linking Wheal Peevor with Wheal Rose and Redruth for extended cycling opportunities. Wheal Peevor is family-friendly and accessible to visitors of all abilities. While some sections are steep, many trails accommodate wheelchairs and pushchairs, making it suitable for families with young children and those with mobility requirements. Interactive activity sheets are available to guide families through the trails with fun tasks and challenges, encouraging children to explore and discover something new at nearly every turn. The site is free to enter at all times and open year-round. It's an ideal destination for families seeking outdoor activities combined with educational experiences about Cornwall's rich mining heritage and natural landscapes.

Interesting relics of local mining history with paths all round and good information boards. Beautiful foxgloves too.

It's brilliant to see these ancient workings restored and made accessible for most people to see Cornwalls tin mining heritage. Most workings have fallen into disrepair, however, these are a credit to the restorers who brought them back

Absolutely beautiful carpark nearby and more than I thought it would be. It was lovely to see a piece of history. Had small children with us and they were able to walk around and they also really appreciated it..

Really nice to see all 3 engine houses in good condition and with steel staircases to look inside. These are only 5 minutes walk from the car park and level wide paths between them. Free car park for about 6 cars.

Large sprawling tin mining site with a Pumping house, Winding engine house and Stamps engine house. Information boards about the site explain in detail what the function of that building was. Completely safe site so would be ideal for school trips. Very rare in Cornwall - there is free parking for 5 cars!
