A fabulous museum situated in Pannett Park, Whitby. You walk through the free Art Gallery to get into the museum. Full of unusual & quirky objects including; dinosaur bones found close to Whitby nb. These are the actual bones not plaster copies, fossils, medals from the 2nd world war together with stories from the owners, stuffed birds, Victorian jet jewellery, found on the shores of Whitby, details of Captain Cooks routes and ships, Victorian dolls as well as a Tempest Prognosticator and a Zeplin III Dark Matter Detector. If you're wondering what they are, then you'll have to visit the museum, or look at my photos. There's also a room full of other quirky items with their stories attached, fascinating. Upstairs is a room showing a video of Lewis Carroll's connection to Whitby, who knew? There is also costumes from Alice in Wonderland. Downstairs are the toilets and a cafe.
We had a lovely day looking at the art work at the gallery. The gallery art works is in two room and free to view. To enter the museum you need tickets which can be purchased on the spot. There is a discount for students. Great place if your children or you are interested in fossils and ships. It has a lovely exhibition of Alice and wonderland theme curious things from the past of the first floor. Excellent cafe to stop buy and replenish.
A great museum and art gallery with absolutely masses of stuff packed in. The art collection is small but very interesting, and the main museum galleries are rammed with all sorts of things ranging from large fossils to a specialist gallery on James Cook etc. It is obviously doing well as there is a new wing. The gardens in the surrounding Park are lovely too, and there is a shop and a very lively cafe.
A great collection of all sorts of artefacts from various areas of Whitby history. Loved the fossils and all the info on James Cook. My little boy loved looking at the old toys and the models of the boats. Great way to spend an hour or two. Park outside is great for kids and the cafe is reasonably priced too. Brilliant price. £9 for adults £5 with Blue light card and kids are free. Entry is valid for 12 months too!
Was really good enjoyed the exhibits and there were a wide range of different items from a dark matter detector to a human hand. There was a good mouse hunt that children can do and adults as well as I found it fun and they have a nice cafe. Highly recommend a visit fun for adults and children.
