Explore native British wildlife in ancient woodland parks while supporting innovative conservation and rewilding projects across the UK.

Wildwood Trust operates ancient woodland wildlife parks dedicated to protecting, conserving, and rewilding native British species. Founded in 2002, this conservation charity combines visitor experiences with evidence-based wildlife reintroduction programmes, making it a unique destination where families can connect with nature while learning about Britain's natural heritage. Visitors can discover a variety of native species on public display, from lynx and bison to smaller mammals, all playing a role in the charity's broader conservation mission. The parks showcase rewilding success stories, including the first successful bison reintroduction in Kent, allowing guests to understand how keystone species help create resilient habitats and support biodiversity recovery. Wildwood is suitable for families of all ages, offering outdoor woodland experiences combined with educational opportunities. The venue emphasises inspiring the next generation of rewilders by connecting people with wildlife and teaching conservation skills. With parks in Kent and Devon, plus educational courses and volunteer opportunities, Wildwood provides more than just a day out—it's a chance to be part of the solution to Britain's biodiversity crisis.

A very sad and disappointing visit! I never leave reviews but I am so frustrated after visiting this “zoo” as my mother’s day present I just had to! Our recent visit to Wildwood Trust in Canterbury was very disappointing, especially compared to when we visited about four years ago. Back then the park felt much more enjoyable, but sadly it seems to have gone downhill massively since our last visit. One of the biggest issues was the lack of animals actually visible around the park. Many enclosures appeared empty or the animals were nowhere to be seen, which made the whole experience feel very underwhelming. Me and my children were convinced most of the enclosures actually had no animals in them! Many enclosures had signs saying “bear with us…” We also noticed there were no keepers around the park, so there was no opportunity to ask questions or learn more about the animals or the conservation work they promote. The only two staff members we see where the two on reception. The enclosures themselves also seemed quite poor and basic, and in some cases it was very difficult to spot anything at all. While natural habitats are important, the park simply felt like there wasn’t much (if anything) to see for visitors. What made the experience even more frustrating is that we spent more time travelling to the park than we did inside it. After walking around and seeing so little, we ended up leaving after about 45 minutes. Ironically, the busiest part of the whole park was the exit area where the play park is located. It seemed like most families were there, probably trying to entertain their children after how disappointing the animal park itself was. It felt like an overpriced forrest and I could of just took my kids to the local woodlands for free and had more fun. When I asked my kids what their favourite animal was that they see they said “the red ants” which was not actually an enclosure but an infestation that seems to have taken over the whole park! I have attached pictures but I would say 8/10 of the enclosure were empty. We see a horse, elk, deer, wolves, red ants and a few pigeons. Overall, it felt like a huge decline compared to our previous visit, and my children were very disappointed. If I could get a refund, I would!

Even on a rainy, grey Sunday afternoon Wildwood is still my 'happy place'. Started with a meal at the cafe - very nice pepperoni pizza and tuna baked potato - before grabbing a couple of coffees and heading out. So full that I even resisted some of their cakes! Out in the park had a great chat with a keeper, getting updates on our favourite animals. Well worth a visit and definitely becoming a member. The park is always changing and there's always something new to see.

We last visited four years ago. We didn't see some animals because of the time of year but were chuffed to see the Lynx and the wildcat. Kids loved the arctic foxes. The raised areas give a great view. The bear rope bridge is fun. Cafe is OK. We took a picnic. There are plenty of benches.

Oh wow i fell in love with this place! I went in Oct 2 (autumn) so the scenery was stunning to start with regardless! the leaves were falling and I managed t get a last minute ticket as soon as they opened and before a rabble of noisy primary school trips got it! I wandered around feeling as though it was an open live habitat even with the small discreet fences. Only animal I dint see was bears (even tried the bear bridge at nearly 50!) but I expect it was too early and they were in their den. I made it round and ended at the lovely cafe in a lodge with twinkling lights and utter calm and serenity feeling. they had good selection of coffees, milk alternatives, cakes and hot and cold snacks. there is also a little shop with a range of items on different budgets, but all round decent. I will go back for sure & recommend
