Wilton Park

Batley, United Kingdom•4.3(2.2k)•City Park, Museum, Playground

Explore Batley's historic main park featuring woodland walks, an ornamental lake, children's play areas, and the striking Bagshaw Museum in a gothic mansion.

Wilton Park is the principal park serving Batley, divided into two distinct areas by a steeply sloping wooded section. The upper area houses the impressive Bagshaw Museum, a gothic mansion built in 1875-76 that was purchased by Batley Corporation in 1909. The lower, more formal section along Bradford Road contains the park's main attractions and recreational facilities. Visitors can enjoy a large ornamental lake (historically a dam across a small beck) that provides year-round habitat for hundreds of water birds. The park features extensive recreational amenities including bowling greens, tennis courts, a children's play area, basketball court, 5-a-side football pitch, putting green, and crazy golf. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the woodland walks and ornamental gardens throughout the grounds. The park is suitable for families of all ages, from young children exploring the play areas to adults enjoying the heritage aspects and outdoor pursuits. Additional facilities include a café with refreshments, public toilets, ample car parking, and a historic railway bridge at the main entrance. The venue combines active recreation with cultural heritage, making it an ideal destination for family outings.

This is the closest park from out house and we really enjoy it as it has a playground, a lake full of ducks and goose, forest to have a walk with different routes as low level ones and high intensity level - climbing 🙂. It has as well a coffee shop, football and tennis courts, lots of picnic areas and in top of the forest after you do the climbing part there is th Bangshaw Museum. Plus there are 2 free car parks and I forgot the ramp for bikers, scooters, or rollers passionate.

This was a pretty park to sit down and relax at the benches, overlooking the lake surrounded by geese. Tiny island is a nice addition in the middle of the lake and different leaved trees nearby help contributing to the relaxing vibe, bridge at the back is cool as this looks like an old railway bridge!

It's a really lovely place to spend a day or afternoon. Lots for the little ones to keep them active. The woods are brilliant so many big old trees and plants to look at. You can picture the history of this place as your walking especially through the woods upto bagshaw museum. I walk there from Morley with my children and they think it's great. The only let down is the children's platy park. It could do with a facelift and a clean as it's looking a little run down and some gates so little ones can't escape and dogs can't venture in but still other than this I will keep on coming and enjoying our family time there.

Nice place to visit with family or friends. It’s spring time and weather presently nice nowadays. U can enjoy all day long. Parking is good enough. There is walking track for walking and running lovers. Benches are everywhere so you can find a place easily when u feel tired. And there is a museum as well. In fact this Park name is Bagshaw Museum and Wilton Park. So u must visit museum.

Lovely clean place to take the kids. It was pretty busy when we went, although social distancing is a struggle it was still possible to maintain a distance and have plenty of places and things to play on. Great mini skate park too.
