Nice little museum detailing major eras of the city’s past. The Roman mosaics and medieval artifacts were the highlights for me. Many of the interactive displays and videos weren’t working when I visited. Great shop with lots of books.
Very small museum, but has an awesome selection of artefacts. I especially liked the Jane Austin bits. The board games were fun to learn too! It doesn’t take long to get through the whole museum.
Great visit to Winchester, a pass for the City Museum, The Great Hall and Westgate museum was reasonable and lasts for a year of visits. Lots of history and information, well worth a visit
Amazing selection for any level of history lovers or reluctant partners that get dragged along. There's a little bit of everything so you can have quick tour before lunch or really learn in depth about city's history. Exhibits include roman coins, jewellery, pottery, skull reconstruction, clothing, an interactive city view and more. Lovely shop too.
Winchester City Museum offers a fascinating journey through the city’s rich history, from Roman times to the modern era. The exhibits are well-curated, featuring artifacts, interactive displays, and detailed information panels. Highlights include ancient coins, medieval relics, and local archaeology finds. The museum is compact but engaging, making it perfect for history enthusiasts and visitors seeking to understand Winchester’s heritage.
