Free to enter and I think 5 pounds to watch the glass blower. Some beautiful works of art in their gallery and a large piece of the history of glass blowing tubes. Good fun when you need to kill some time.

A fascinating and fun museum and galleries located on the site of the old Pilkington Glassworks. I came here on a group visit that comprised the museum, a guided tour, glassblowing demonstration and a buffet lunch in the café, and it was an enjoyable experience from start to finish! The World of Glass is free to enter if you're not on a group visit, but you can make a donation. We entered through the Jubilee Cone Building, part of the original glassworks. Our guide was both friendly and knowledgeable, and she gave us a short introductory talk before starting the tour. Could have easily spent more than an hour in the museum, with its historical overview of St Helens and the lives of the Pilkington Glass workers, Victorian interiors, some fun interactive exhibits and optical illusions, and a gallery full of wonderful glass artefacts dating from the time of the Egyptian pharaohs to the present day. The guided tour, across a glass bridge over the Sankey Canal to the Tank House (where the first continuous glass furnace was) and the tunnels (where hard hats were available), was very informative, and we were given a real insight into the harsh conditions endured by the workers. But the highlight was undoubtedly watching skilful glassblower Marcin, helped by Kate who also provided commentary, create a lovely vase from molten glass. The café is bright and airy with great views of the Tank House and the canal from its floor to ceiling windows. We enjoyed a very nice cold buffet, but you can also get cooked meals here. There's a gift shop, a library, a gallery with some beautiful but pricey glassware for sale, a children's outdoor play area, accessible downstairs toilets and a lift to the upper floor. All in all, it was an excellent day out! Would highly recommend.

Good interesting information about how glass is made with examples on display. Great little tour into history of glass blowing too. Sunday parking os free. Donation of min £3 required in the museum. Definitely recommend for information gathering.

We went to World of Glass yesterday for our very first visit to the museum and a private morning class of glass blowing and glass crafts, making a bauble and a paperweight. This is a brilliant day out for the family, the museum has activities for children, lots of interesting facts and info on St Helens (not just about glass!) Museum is free to visit, but always good to donate x The glass class was amazing! They don't just offer private classes, also have free ones were you can watch the talented glass artists make a number of items too. Both glassblowers Martin and Kate were very knowledgeable, helpful and made our morning one to remember. Going back to the museum, you walk over a glass bridge into part of the old factory/glass works, don your hard hat for a trip down some of the remaining tunnels. St Helens library is also on site, a lovely cafe and gift shop. There was a lady in reception who gave us a partial tour of the museum, she was so lovely and knew a hell of a lot of it's history. This is an excellent day out, we are going to be bringing our kids again and again. Go for the staff and volunteers alone, we will be back :)

The World of Glass is an absolute treasure, visiting the glass museum where you can even learn to blow is fascinating. Then there’s the gallery, the library, a shop stocked with beautiful glassware, jewellery, books and trinkets, and don’t forget the the cafe. Great for adults and children with many events and activities to enjoy throughout the year. They also host excellent writing workshops as well.
