A great trip . It was brilliant bonding time for me and my son to travel down the Wye. Drop off and equipment and safety briefing was very comprehensive . Naturally there was doubt in my mind about taking on a 3 day trip and covering the distance but the trip was great fun and a very rewarding challenge . I throughly recommend it and the team were great and a comfort to know that should anything go wrong then they are there to help .

Loved our day canoeing on the kerne bridge to Symons yat half day trip. We added the late return to ensure time for a stop off. We were a bit delayed launching due to a mix up with the booking & the need for boats to be "sparred" together, but the team were generally very helpful

Well organised activity and centre, great canoe ride down river watching wildlife and life passing by. 9 miles about right for us as a retired couple!!

Had a wonderful time doing the 9 miles canoeing experience. We (6 ladies in our 40s & 50s) arrived early and were able to get started straight away. The team were very friendly and welcoming. Would recommend this activity.

Date of experience: August 2025. Who? Two adults, early 50s. We arrived early on an August morning to hire a canoe for a couple of hours. PAID PARKING We parked in the dusty lot and paid at the machine. The lot is a little tight and fills up fast. Get there early. BIT OF A WAIT We waited in line in order to check in, fill out the paperwork and pay. Since we were only hiring a canoe for a couple of hours, we couldn't book in advance. The staff were doing their best on a busy summer day. GO BEFORE YOU GO There are two small toilets around the corner from the check-in desk. GRAB A BLUE BARREL FOR YOUR PERSONAL ITEMS We donned our life jackets and retrieved a blue barrel to hold any personal items we'd brought with us that shouldn't get wet. We were given quick instructions at the river edge and then away we went...! CANOE VS. KAYAK We had been in kayaks several times, but never a canoe. I will say a canoe is a bit slower than a kayak and I overall prefer a kayak experience, having now done both. SERENE SCENERY The scenery was lovely and enjoyed looking out for wildlife (mostly birds/swans), along with watching other vessels, canoes and stand-up paddlers, etc. WHAT TO WEAR We were lucky to have a sunny day and wore sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. My husband wore a T-shirt and shorts. I wore capri-length shorts and a T-shirt with a sun-protective light shirt over the top. We both wore waterproof hiking shoes. We didn't get wet at all. I think we hired the canoe for 1.5 or 2 hours, but I feel 1 hour would have been plenty. It's up to you to watch your time and get back to the dock on time. Afterwards, we hiked Symonds Yat rock. Note: The road down to the canoe hire is narrow and includes a one-way bridge which was a little hairy for us Americans!
