Great local museum, wide range of historic items. Highly recommended. Small entrance fee of £10 for a year. No cafe on site but many nearby. Good shop. Located in large gardens also worth a visit. Is in city centre no parking, but park and ride bus stops outside.
£10 per person which is allowing you to visit for another 12 months. Museum is amazing, nice walk around with lots of information and VR! You can feed a dinosaur, super fun for kids and adults. Lots of interactive stands. You can also walk (bare foot! No shoes allowed!) on Roman old brick path. Unforgettable experience. Viking jewel, ship, runes to learn and more awaits!
Very interesting exhibits, especially the Dinosaur fossils and I enjoyed learning about York’s Viking and Roman history. It was fun to write my name in Runes too! The £10 entry fee felt very reasonable given how much there is to see and absorb. I didn’t book in advance and had no issues buying an admission ticket upon arrival. I also enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful and well kept museum gardens.
Unexpectedly great museum in York - and free entry with our Art Passes! Bigger than you’d think, and excellent attention to detail on the decor and theming. Think it’s the only museum I’ve ever visited that had an entire gallery dedicated to the children’s museum experience - other than museums genuinely aimed at children, of course. This was the Mary Anning exhibition - if you have kids it’s a must! I personally loved the VR dinosaur experience the most. Feeding a giant dinosaur to the dulcet tones of Sir David Attenborough was something I’ll never forget. Thank you Yorkshire Museum!
Overall a great experience and certainly worth a visit. The staff are wonderful; Welcoming, friendly and engaging. The exhibits were really interesting, with plenty of local artefacts on display, including many from the Romans and Vikings. Some displays had descriptions next to the artefact, whilst some relied on a number with a corresponding description which I'm personally not keen on.
