Steam into the New Year is part of the programme at Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire - a New Year's Day running day at the living museum of the Great Western Railway, where you can "savour the sights, sounds and smells of steam as you explore this 21-acre living museum with trains dating from Victorian times to the 1960s".
What to expect:
- One date: Friday 1 January 2027
- Open 10.30am to 4pm; last admission is at 2.30pm
- "Steam trains will be operating on at least one of the Centre's two demonstration lines, allowing you to take unlimited rides"
- The 1932 Engine Shed, where you can "climb onto the footplate" of some locomotives
- Restored carriages and wagons, Brunel's Broad Gauge railway and the Signalling Centre
- A WWII air-raid shelter built "to keep Didcot's enginemen safe"
- "Children can make tracks to the outdoor play area or dress up as a station master"
