Explore a vibrant waterfront harbour village with independent retail pods, a seafood centre with interactive lobster hatchery, and scenic coastal views perfect for families.

Amble Harbour Village is a charming waterfront destination located at the mouth of the River Coquet estuary in Northumberland. The redeveloped harbour features 15 independently run retail pods selling everything from local cheeses to artisan crafts, alongside the Northumberland Seafood Centre which sources fresh local seafood and operates an interactive visitor centre with a working lobster hatchery. This educational feature is particularly engaging for families interested in marine life. The harbour area offers a delightful mix of food and entertainment options. Visitors can enjoy fish and chips from traditional shacks, artisanal ice cream from boutique makers, and fine dining at seafood restaurants like The Old Boathouse. The scenic sea-front pathway with colourful beach huts and clinking rigging from the award-winning marina creates a quintessential seaside atmosphere. Amble positions itself as 'the friendliest port in England' and is an ideal base for family adventures. The location provides easy access to watersports through the Coquet Shorebase Trust, which offers sailing, kayaking, and raft building. Wildlife enthusiasts can embark on puffin cruises to see the 36,000-bird colony on nearby Coquet Island, an RSPB seabird sanctuary. The village is dog-friendly and pushchair-accessible, with ample parking and a short walk leading to the charming town centre's cafes, restaurants, and shops. Its position within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty makes it perfect for families seeking outdoor exploration combined with quality food and shopping experiences.

Some neat little businesses here in the huts, selling a good mix of things from jewellery, dog stuff, sweets, children's stuff, food and home decor. My husband. Got coffee and beers, and I got some ornaments. Right near several cafes so you can shop then go for a cuppa or food, or what ever. Cute little area.

What a lovely spot on the North East coast , first visit and we will be back sometime a d extremely popular with locals and tourists alike by the look of it. Fresh fish just landed available at the fish quay at reasonable prices. Craft stalls and a drinks van on a small area in the centre and various craft huts on the quayside together with a local stall holder selling delicious ' Geordie Bangers ' and various other fayre including a scrumptious pork and black pudding sausage roll. There is also a couple of cafes/ restaurants and fish and chips shop in the same area and a great wall along the sea wall. We'll worth a visit and very busy today and only a weekday.

Good weather often adds to the ambience of a place and we were lucky to have superb May sunshine. Plenty of local shops and eateries to explore. Also a great Sunday street market.
