Bird Safari

London, United Kingdom•4.4(20)•Wildlife Center, Zoo

Explore an immersive walk-through habitat showcasing rare and vibrant bird species from around the world, including birds no longer found in the wild.

Bird Safari is a special birdwatching habitat at London Zoo that offers visitors an immersive walk-through experience to observe some of the world's rarest and most colorful bird species. Opened in 2004, the habitat was designed to create an expansive space that brings visitors closer to wildlife while supporting important conservation efforts. The habitat is home to a diverse range of species including the scarlet ibis, Abdim's stork, red-crested turaco, great Argus, emerald dove, Socorro dove, and Edward's pheasant. Many of these birds hold special significance—the Edward's pheasant has not been recorded in the wild for 25 years, making the Zoo's population invaluable for the species' survival. The scarlet ibis, native to the Caribbean, is a national bird of Trinidad and Tobago. The red-crested turaco is notable for being the only bird species with truly green pigment, created by a unique copper-based pigment that makes them exceptionally vibrant. Bird Safari is suitable for families and visitors of all ages who wish to learn about bird species and conservation. The habitat provides educational opportunities to understand the behaviors and characteristics of these charismatic birds, from the emerald dove's courtship head-bobbing display to the great Argus's elaborate dancing grounds used to attract mates.

The Bird Safari at the ZSL London Zoo is an amazing experience. The zoo is home to a variety of birds from around the world and provides a great opportunity to get up close and personal with some of nature's most beautiful creatures. The safari offers an interactive experience, with visitors able to feed the birds, learn about their habitats and even get to hold some of the smaller birds. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable day out.
