Penguin Beach

London, United Kingdom•4.8(134)•Wildlife Center, Zoo

Watch England's biggest penguin colony dive and play in a stunning South American beach habitat with twice-daily feeding demonstrations.

Penguin Beach at London Zoo is home to a thriving colony of Humboldt penguins in a recreated South American beach landscape. The habitat features a massive 1,200 square metre pool holding 450,000 litres of water, with underwater viewing areas that allow visitors to observe how penguins gracefully fly beneath the surface. The highlight for many families is Penguin Beach Live, which showcases twice-daily feeding demonstrations where visitors can watch the penguins diving and hunting for food in a specially designed amphitheater-style viewing area. This transforms mealtime into an engaging spectacle that captivates children and adults alike. Beyond the main colony, the habitat includes a breeding facility with a specialized penguin nursery complete with a chick incubation unit and a separate learning pool where young penguins develop their swimming skills. This educational aspect gives visitors insight into penguin conservation and reproduction efforts. Penguin Beach is ideal for families of all ages, combining entertainment with wildlife education. The outdoor setting is pushchair-friendly and dog-friendly, making it accessible for visitors with various needs. The combination of interactive feeding times, stunning underwater views, and educational opportunities makes Penguin Beach a highlight of any London Zoo visit.

The penguin beach is a must visit at London zoo. It's a nice area to sit and watch cute penguins glide through the water and enjoy themselves.

Favourite place in the zoo, great seeing all the Humboldt penguins up close and swimming underwater. Enjoyed the penguin talk given by a staff member. The area has a nice light breeze and chillness on a warm day, also lots of seating area to observe from.
