Definitely worth a visit! It's amazing walking around the former castle. There are alot of information boards, explaining what each section of the ruins was.
Interesting structure with quite a history and royal connections. Nice easy walk around. Good info boards. Visit the Gas house by church for further info.
Bolingbroke Castle was built in 1220-1230. It was the birthplace of Henry IV in 1366, and became a royal castle when Henry succeeded to the throne in 1399. During the Civil War it was briefly held by Royalist forces, then was 'slighted' or deliberately ruined. Today, the ruins are free to visit. Information panels are dotted around the ruins and help to explain what can be seen. There is free parking for a few vehicles.
Very peaceful and tranquil, nice place to stop off and explore. Not a great deal left but can see some of the old ruins and moat. Better than some places I've been and paid to get in. This one is free.
Lovely little place in a quiet village location. History to be discovered in lovely surroundings. The remains of the castle are still visible. It's a shame more doesn't still exist but interesting nevertheless.
