Stopped off here after a day at the beach. Incredibly hot, so we were thankful for the shade of the ruins and the cool passages and stairwells. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the place and my teenage sons loved exploring everywhere. We will definitely come back again.

Beautifully preserved Anglo Norman castle. Once home to the formidable Queen Isabella who helped to force Edward II's abdication in 1327. Tickets cost £6 for adults. There is a very small gift shop but the real treasure is the castle itself with much to explore and inspire.

Great castle with impressive earthworks and a stunning stone keep. The audio tour provided via the website is excellent and really helps to understand what you're seeing. Oddly I didn't see anyone else using it but it made the whole experience great for the whole family. There is ample parking, toilets and a small gift shop. Lots of nearby places to get food or drink.

Honestly superb value for money. Would happily have paid more. Audio guide worked perfectly well and was free as it was via QR code to your own phone! Cute gift shop. Lovely sunny day for a picnic too. Will bring the family next time!

Really great castle with lovely views. Walk up is push chair friendly but inside the castle is all steep stairs so glad I brought a sling for my toddler. Dogs were allowed in (and found a pigeon so they had a great time. Deffinetly worth a visit, they shut the car park at 4pm though and I wish we'd have gone earlier as we only had an hour and could have investiged the inside of the castle more
