Excellent small museum detailing the life of Huntingdon-born, Oliver Cromwell. Whilst the exhibits cover the wider story of the English Civil Wars and The Protectorate, it is the personal items, including a hat believed to worn by him and his pocket watch, which captivated me. This personal connection is enhanced by the fact that Cromwell attended school in the museum building. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff in the museum were very helpful in interpreting the displays. An excellent visit!
Located in the centre of Huntingdon this small museum hides its amazing content, piecing together the history of Oliver Cromwell from birth to death. Staff friendly and welcoming and happy to engage with visitors. Entry is free, however I would highly recommend paying a donation for the work the museum does. There are numerous painting and artifacts from Olivers live and times. For younger visitors there are some hands on items. Come for history, stay for a chat. Perhaps change your minds on Oliver Cromwell.. hero or villain?
I loved learning about Sir Oliver Cromwell despite his controversial history. The museum was a small little building which used to be a school. The staff were very informative and enthusiastic. They also have actors that love to talk to vistors about the history.
Lovely little museum. Some great artifacts and very friendly staff. There was an exhibition of contemporary foods and drinks when we went. Free tasting and a very informative insight to food and drink of the time. If you are passing make some time to visit.
What a beautifully laid out and looked after museum for a conflict not spoken about enough. My Wife and I attended this lovely building and I was taken aback by the quality of the exhibits and the kindness of the staff who were readily available to speak with us and show us around. The equipment and literature available in the museum is excellent and kindly donated by the families of the conflict and I couldn't recommend this highly enough and hurry as they currently have a Naseby exhibit! Thank you to the staff and recommendations on the books!
