Japan House is one of my favourite places in South Kensington. It’s much more than just a shop – it’s a great place to experience Japanese culture, design and craftsmanship. The exhibitions are always thoughtfully curated, the store has a fantastic selection of high-quality Japanese products, and the café is well worth a visit too. The whole place feels calm, elegant and beautifully designed. Whether you’re interested in Japan or just looking for somewhere different to spend an hour or two, I highly recommend stopping by. I always end up discovering something new every time I visit.

My favorite place for matcha and hojicha in London 🍵 so spacious, bright and aesthetically beautiful with minimalistic white design. Overall it’s more like a shop where you can find many Japanese items from clothes and stationary to food and furniture. Underground there is a small museum with Japanese cookery artifacts

Visited here in the last month for the pottery exhibition. It was beautiful - as is this place. A great showcase of Japan & its pottery and art 🇯🇵!

What a lovely surprise Japan House London turned out to be! The space has such a bright, light-filled atmosphere that instantly makes you feel relaxed and welcome the moment you walk in. The staff are genuinely warm and welcoming too. Unfortunately there was no exhibition on downstairs during our visit, but that actually turned into a lovely bonus. It gave us the perfect opportunity to explore the excellent library, which has a beautifully curated selection of books covering all aspects of Japan. There was even a special display on cats that we couldn’t resist spending time with. We ended up browsing happily for quite a while and thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. This visit brought back so many wonderful memories of our trip to Japan 11 years ago. The incredible people, rich culture, stunning nature, and of course the food! It was the perfect little reminder of how special the country is and has definitely given us the push we needed to start planning our next trip. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend Japan House to anyone with an interest in Japan or even those with none at all. It’s a beautiful, calming space that will leave you inspired 🇯🇵

We visited while there was an exhibition of hundreds of specially curated Japanese objects being displayed and the exhibition was great. The retail shop is also excellent, with a wide assortment of authentic practical and decorative Japanese objects to choose from. Prices range from quite affordable to luxury and everything in between. We bought some ceramic ramen spoons, a pair of ramen bowls and a pair of salt and pepper sellars, which came to under £200. Not cheap, but definitely not outrageous for hand crafted objects, which you can't get anywhere else in the UK. The staff were also lovely and we got excellent service. We'll defo call in again when we're next in London.
