Framed by the dramatic slopes of the Mourne Mountains and the shimmering waters of Carlingford Lough, Kilbroney Forest Park in Rostrevor, County Down, is widely considered one of Northern Ireland’s most spectacular natural assets. Spanning 97 acres of manicured parkland that dissolves into thousands of acres of dense, ancient forest, this destination seamlessly balances high-octane adventure with serene family recreation. The park’s true genius lies in its multi-tiered topography. The lower valley floor caters elegantly to families, featuring lush lawns and gentle streams, while the upper elevations transition into rugged, challenging terrain that rewards hikers and mountain bikers with world-class, panoramic vistas. World-Class Mountain Biking: The park is globally renowned for the Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails, providing over 27km of thrilling red and black single-track loops, alongside two purpose-built downhill courses. Themed and Nature Trails: From the flat, magical Narnia Trail (punctuated by striking C.S. Lewis-inspired sculptures) to the tranquil, waterside Fairy Glen walk on the park’s boundary. Camping & Caravan Site: An award-winning, 5-star site offering 51 fully serviced hardstanding and grass pitches, modern shower blocks, laundry, and unserviced tent spaces. Hospitality & Dining: The Cloughmore Centre features an excellent, cozy on-site café serving hot lunches, fresh traybakes, and artisan coffees, cold drinks and ice cream. General Amenities: Massive children’s adventure play zone, tennis courts, comprehensive public toilets with full accessibility, and ample pay-and-display parking.

Best park I’ve been to in Newry! It’s a beautiful open space with stunning greenery, scenic views, and plenty of hiking trails. In February, it was quiet, which I personally enjoyed. The park is so big that I didn’t get to explore it all, but the lakeside area was peaceful - perfect for dog lovers, especially if you’re staying nearby or in the north with a dog. There’s also a café where you can grab a tea or coffee. Several trails lead up the hillside, offering great views overlooking the city. Highly recommend! Rain, hail or snow dog will love it (plenty of dogs off the lead which was great to see, free parking along the curb side too). Cafes, little shops all in close proximity too. Lots of bikers around in different locations it’s too big to know where it starts and end. Retriever girl was happy to retrieve bark sticks out of the lake and water parts of the park ☺️
