I joined Historic Houses for a year as Levens Hall was one of the free to members properties, while on holiday up near the Lake District. I had been years and years ago, but couldn't remember much about it really. House was lovely but the wonderfully whacky topiary gardens are the real gem here probably. A great way to spend a few hours.

The house is well run and contains lots of lovely little artefacts. It's fascinating to see how the rooms are maintained and yet still used by the family today. The gardens were an absolute highlight of our visit and I would have spent longer looking around had it not been raining so much!

The house itself was lovely, of course, but limited in scale compared to some other sites we have visited. Despite this its worth taking a look around, the gilt leather panelling on the walls of the dining room was something I have not seen before. The gardens, however, were quite exceptional. Alice in Wonderland vibes galore with the topiery. I think summer is the time of year to visit for sure.

Had a lovely time looking round the gardens - they were exceptional! And the variety was very impressive - they had a lot more than I expected. Car park was big and had plenty of space when I arrived. The shop and bakery were great too. Would definitely go back

Visited Levens Hall & Gardens today and overall really enjoyed the experience 🌿 The gardens were definitely the highlight for me — absolutely beautiful and so relaxing to walk around. I enjoyed them that much I actually went around twice! Plenty to see and very well kept throughout. Stopped for a coffee and flapjack too. The coffee was nice quality, but I did feel it was quite small for nearly £4. The flapjack though was absolutely amazing and well worth trying 😍 I also loved seeing the homemade sourdough and fresh breads being made in front of you. That added a really nice touch and made the place feel more unique. The hall itself was interesting, although personally I found it a little expensive for what it was. One thing I did really like inside though was the leather wall hangings/tiles — something a bit different that stood out to me. Overall, a lovely day out with stunning gardens, good food and plenty to see 🌸
