Watch spectacular flying demonstrations and explore the largest collection of birds of prey in northern England at this award-winning attraction in the North York Moors.

The National Centre for Birds of Prey (NCBP) is an award-winning visitor attraction situated within the magnificent Duncombe Park estate in Helmsley, set within the world-famous North York Moors National Park. The centre houses the largest collection of birds of prey in the north of England, ranging from the tiny Burrowing Owl to the mighty Steller's Sea Eagle. Visitors can experience spectacular flying demonstrations where many of the birds take to the skies, showcasing their impressive aerial abilities and natural behaviours. The centre provides educational sign information on each aviary, explaining fascinating details about the birds and their conservation. Interactive activities include a free ink stamp trail and word search/colouring sheets for children, making it engaging for younger visitors. The venue is set within 300 acres of woodland and parkland at Duncombe Park, offering peaceful walks alongside the bird viewing experience. The on-site Owl House Cafe serves locally sourced snacks, hot and cold meals, fresh coffee, and home-baked cakes made on the premises. The centre features full disabled access with compacted fine gravel paths and no steps, making it accessible for families with pushchairs and mobility needs. Plan to allow 2-3 hours to see everything, though many visitors choose to spend a full day. Entry includes a wristband system allowing visitors to leave and re-enter as often as they wish, perfect for exploring the surrounding parkland or visiting nearby Helmsley. We’ve visited 3 times over the last 3 years, and look forward to next year already. A venture worth supporting with great staff who have excellent knowledge of their craft and birds. Weather conditions, rightly so, dictate which birds fly, but we finally got to see Ocarina fly yesterday. 👍🏽

Staff were lovely and very informative even when the birds didn't listen ;-). The cafe also had some delicious homemade food. A great day out even for those without an interest in birds.

brilliant! the best bird and owl sanctuary we have been to. seeing the vultures and the condors was amazing, the condors are huge, you can't appreciate the size unless you see them up close. fantastic! cafe is nice and the displays, although poor weather, we're excellent. keep up the good work!

Great experience with multiple flying demonstrations with different sets of birds. Would recommend bringing layers in case it gets chilly and recommend the cafe for a nice bite to eat while getting warmed up.

A great place to visit. Very children friendly. Amazing collection of magnificent birds. Most are caged but the staff and signage explain why this is required. Various birds are flown free twice a day. The staff are friendly, entertaining, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable.
