Extensive area of unspoilt upland countryside in the care of the National Trust. Moorland, lush woodland, and rocky edges are all accessible via a network of well maintained paths, providing hours of enjoyment exploring this scenic area of the Peak District. Longshaw itself is home to a large café, toilet facilities and plenty of parking. I'd recommend using this parking area over others like Wooden Pole, as payment is by cash or app only and mobile data can be unreliable in the area. It's free for National Trust members but you'll have to register your vehicle at the visitor centre. Whether you've got all day or just an hour or two, there's plenty to see here. Padley Gorge is a scenic place for walks by the stream, known for its wonderful autumn colours. Froggatt Edge is longer walk away across the moorland, rewarded with striking rock formations. Heading in the opposite direction, Carl Wark, an ancient hillfort, has stunning views overlooking miles of countryside all the way to the Hope Valley and Mam Tor. Longshaw is situated relatively close to the major urban centre of Sheffield, and is a very popular place to escape the city. It therefore gets busy on weekends, so if you're looking for a quieter visit it's best to come in the week or arrive early in the day. That said, everyone was friendly on the Sunday morning we visited, and once away from the café it didn't feel overcrowded.

This is a phenomenal location for a family hike, offering the perfect blend of beautiful Peak District scenery and well-maintained facilities. We spent a thoroughly enjoyable day here and will absolutely be returning. The fresh air and stunning landscape make it well worth the visit, especially for families with little ones. -​Accessibility & Parking: We arrived late morning around 11:30 am, and there was plenty of parking available. Navigating the estate with my disabled sister was a breeze. There are three distinct paths to choose from—two are incredibly accessible and family-friendly, while one is a bit more rugged. We opted for the accessible, flat route, which took us roughly 1.5 to 2 hours at a comfortable pace. It is a very reasonable trail, and it appears cyclists can comfortably use it as well. -​Food & Drink: We visited the on-site cafe before our walk and found it to be reasonably priced. I had the bangers and mash with a side salad, which was genuinely enjoyable—I would definitely order it again. -​The Post-Walk Treat: Upon returning from our hike, we stopped for some scoop ice cream. The chocolate ice cream is absolutely amazing and the perfect reward after a couple of hours out on the trails.

First visit, weather was a bit grim. So check the forecast. Car park in the main car park, plenty of walking routes. (I also dropped into Padley Gorge) nice on sit cafe with toilet facilities. Beautiful warned the cafe is quite pricey and £8 for a days parking. Overall a stunning area in the Peak District.

Visited Longshaw Estate recently and had an absolutely wonderful day. I started at Surprise View and made my way up Crook Hill, and the views from the top were stunning, wide open moorland stretching across the Peak District. The paths across the estate are well-marked and easy to follow, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing walk or a more energetic hike, depending on what you feel like. I especially loved how peaceful it was, not crowded at all, yet there were a few people around, which made it feel safe and welcoming and the open landscapes make it perfect for photos. Overall, Longshaw Estate is a beautiful mix of hills, open fields, and forested areas, a fantastic place to spend a day outdoors, whether you’re a casual walker or looking for a bit of adventure.

We did the medium walk which was lovely and explored the trail then we did the short easy walk around the lake. Beautiful place and quiet first thing in the morning. Would highly recommend for hiking
