Good job I’d bought my ticket before reading the opening paragraph of Stewart Grimshaw’s introduction in the information leaflet provided. I found it rather offensive and snobbish. However, the various gardens were beautiful and interesting, the NT guide and staff were charming and informative and it was a treat to be given access to such a well-loved garden.
It’s one of those places where I think; if I had a few more million I could live here - or maybe hope a rich friend would invite me for a weekend. The minibus from Midhurst works fine. The house is closed but the gardens - wow! A range of small ’rooms’ and then some wide open lawns and wider walks. Join the 15 minute talk on the history of the place (Mike). It’s quite fascinating.
One of the best gardens I have visited.
It was a very hot day when I went and when queuing in the carpark for the minibus to the gardens there was no shade from the sun, and nowhere to sit down. Also when queuing for the minibus home there was also nowhere with shade or the sit down. In terms of the gardens they're very beautiful with a huge variety of styles, colours, and atmospheres. There is so much to explore! While the map was beautifully illustrated, I wish that there were paths shown on the map, as we got a little lost in the woods around the birdhide. I didn't spot any information boards around, which would have been appreciated to understand the type of planting and the history. It's recommended to book tickets in advance Overall though, the gardens and their features are beautiful and I'd recommend a visit, just maybe not on a hot day!
Stunning gardens in West Sussex run by The National Trust with formal areas, pleasure gardens and lovely water features. Some lovely places sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the peace. There is a large mansion house on site but it's not open to the public Woolbeding Gardens are a real hidden treasure, it only opens two days a week and booking is essentially, this can be done via their website. You'll need to park in Midhurst and catch the free mini bus as there is no room for parking at Woolbeding and the nearby country road with the exception of about three bookable spaces for blue badge holders. The mini bus runs frequently throughout the day and seats 29 visitors. Parking in Midhurst's town centre car park is just a couple of £'s Facilities on site at Woolbeding include a tea room with a lovely outside area to enjoy a hit or cold drink and a piece of cake or savoury. There are toilets at the welcome centre.
