The main house was closed to visitor's due to it being used for children visiting Santa 🎅 it was not the best of days to walking around the gardens, it was mostly people with digs that were out and about and of course children on there way to Santa. However I did manage to have a great breakfast served by lovely staff made me feel very welcome.

We loved the outdoors look of the house and enjoyed the gardens and little market in the grounds. We'll be coming back for a proper visit indoors as well (we arrived too late for the guided tour).

We had a wonderful visit here. The guided tour was excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable and brought the history of the house to life. There are so many fascinating stories behind the place, it’s definitely worth a visit. The café was lovely too, with good food and a cosy atmosphere. A truly beautiful spot to spend an afternoon.

Spectacular. The exterior is shabby but, as Lynn, the tour guide said, when you enter you will be "gobsmacked". The tour was hugely informative. The building has a remarkable family history and remarkable furnishings etc. Well worth a visit. Cannot speak for the gardens...we were in the middle of Storm Amy, so gave then a miss. A family tour is also available, with things to entertain the children.

This is run by the National Trust and I think it would be cheaper in the long run to become a national trust member (especially if you are going to visit more national trust places). But please check the prices before you go! We are members of the National Trust so took advantage of this here and can say we had a great day, even if it rained for most of it. We just about managed the Market Garden without getting wet. We did not manage to get around all the walks but as you can see on the estate map pictures I've posted there are some nice walks weather permitting. They have a very nice coffee shop that serves loads of different things. We used it whilst we waited for our guided tour around the House. They seem to go at set times and it is probably better to book in advance, especially during the holiday periods. You can get the tour times and book on their web site. All the staff were friendly & helpful especially the lady that took us around the house who was very knowledgeable of the family and house. It was well worth a visit.
