Small museum dedicated to the history of Port Sunlight. It's well worth taking the guided walking tour around the complex.

A small but fascinating museum housed in a beautiful building that was originally a girls' social club. It's just across the road from the Lady Lever Art Gallery, where there's ample free parking. I came here as part of a day excursion. The staff were really welcoming and went out of their way to ensure that we all enjoyed our visit. Adult admission is £8 and includes the worker's cottage next door. The museum's exhibits are all on the ground floor and tell the inspiring story of Victorian industrialist William Lever, how he created this remarkable village for his employees, and what it was like to live and work here. It's a good idea to watch the short introductory film first. There's lots of info to read, artefacts, interactive displays to amuse both adults and children, and models of people going about their daily tasks, and you can even dress up as one of the soap factory workers. I particularly enjoyed picking up a phone receiver and listening to village residents talking about their experiences here in WW2. You can also join a walking tour of the village. There are clean and accessible toilets, and a gift shop that sells some nice art work, soaps and interesting books about local history. It took me about an hour and a half to go round the museum and visit the worker's cottage. They're well worth a look.

This is a really fascinating museum about Port Sunlight and the Lever Sunlight Soap manufacturing story etc. As you can see from my photographs there is quite a rich history to this place. I really liked the interesting displays, the gift shop etc, the small, but cosy Workers Cottage, the surrounding gardens / neighbourhood, and the staff were excellent. Thank-you. A great day trip out for me from Anglesey. :)

Pleasant walk around the village. An historic area built for the workers of Unilever over a century ago. This is a small museum dedicated to the building of the village and life of the workers living there. There is also Lady Levers Art Museum it has some great examples of pre-Raphaelite art on display, entry/admission is free (note Art gallery closed Mondays, included coffee shop). There are two other coffee/tea shops within the village, collect a free map in the Portsunlight Museum gift shop for directions.

A lovely afternoon at Port Sunlight. We visited the museum/cottage for £8 ( can return for free within 12 months) and found it all very interesting. Then we visited the Lady Lever Art Gallery which was free and also saw the Jim Moir exhibition (Dawn til Dusk) and had very nice cake and coffee in the pop up tea room under one of the domes. After that we enjoyed walking around the model village. A nice afternoon out.
