Portchester Castle is one of the most remarkable historic landmarks in England, offering visitors a fascinating journey through centuries of history. This impressive medieval fortress stands proudly overlooking Portsmouth Harbour, combining architectural beauty with a rich and enduring heritage. Originally built within the walls of a Roman fort, Portchester Castle has witnessed countless historical events and transformations over the centuries. Its well-preserved medieval keep, ancient stone walls, and commanding views create an atmosphere that transports visitors back in time. Walking through the castle grounds allows people to imagine the lives of soldiers, nobles, merchants, and ordinary citizens who once passed through its gates. The castle's significance extends beyond its striking appearance. It serves as a living reminder of England's military, political, and cultural history. Every tower, wall, and pathway tells a story of resilience, defense, and human achievement. The site helps preserve important historical knowledge that might otherwise be forgotten. What makes Portchester Castle particularly special is its ability to connect new generations with the past. It is in two parts. The Castle grounds which is free and then the inner castle managed by English Hertiage. It is quite a sight and often seeing from a distance I didn't realise how big it is and what an amazing history. It's £39.00 for five and this included a donation. Broadly on the mark. I wouldn't want to pay more. Lots to explore inside and amazing views from the tower. Parking is cash or card. Or the pay to park app. £3.20 for three hours.

Really enjoyed our visit, fascinating history and a really peaceful and relaxing place, the church is also a must see, and does lovely snacks and drinks. The staff here couldn’t have been any more helpful and welcoming. The views are amazing, just got to make sure your good with heights if going to the roof. The coastal path is stunning too. You can visit everything bar the keep for free if you wish, although English heritage would appreciate and benefit from your ticket purchase and you’d be missing a treat.

We stopped off here on are way back from a weekend away, it’s a fantastic place to stop for a walk round and a drink. The car park is easy to find and has good size spaces, free clean toilets and picnic tables to enjoy the view . The walk to the castle is level and easy , inside the grounds it’s fairly flat and easy going, inside the castle it does have lots of steps and uneven ground. The castle is definitely worth a look round so interesting and they have done a great job putting stairs in , so the public can enjoy the castle. We both enjoyed stopping here.

This has become a firm family favourite for places to visit. The staff are always friendly and love to have a good conversation and are very helpful. The views from the roof are amazing and parking isn't too expensive. The grounds are a lovely area to have a picnic and a walkabout. We can't fault tgis place.
