Brilliant Art Gallery. There is a mix from historical paintings to contemporary modern furniture and even items made by the community. They hold community Art sessions there- which you need to book in advance. They have a Warm and Sensory space room. Which would be great for young people to play, adults to relax in or people who love Sensory play to go into. They had some tactile tiles which you can walk on or touch in the Sensory space. There was a room which could be used for quiet study and reading too. A historic building which is well cared for and still used by the community which was it's original intention- by Mr Shipley who set it up a d had it purpose built.

We called in the Shipley Art Gallery after visiting Dunston Staiths. Although it’s a small art gallery, it was still good to look around with a mix of traditional and contemporary items too. A nice spacious gallery with plenty of places sit and admire the art. The gallery was relatively quiet too which meant you could spend time looking at the items. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were there about an hour and enjoyed our visit.

Had a wonderful time! The displays were fascinating and full of history, and the craft and drawing event was inclusive with outstanding instructors. A really enjoyable and welcoming experience.

This lovely Art Gallery in Gateshead is a great place to visit as, not only does it house a lot of very interesting paintings, but it also has a significant collection of glass and ceramic ware in addition to the Saltwell Museum collection. My personal preference is for the glasswork and ceramics but I also loved the silver. Back in the Saltwell room there was a continuous stream of archive footage of the area including images from a VE Day long gone. The lady on Reception was very friendly and helpful; I would certainly like to visit again when I am back in the area.
