Very well thought out and delivered with much knowledge and enthusiasm by the staff on duty. The inside of the visitor's centre is made up to look like the inside of the lookout post atop of the castle's walls. With the amazing opportunity to dress up in real chainmail and it's chunky undergarments. Of course none of us had the strength to lift up the chainmail to put it on. And some of the helmets were equally heavy. One of the staff gave us some very good historical events that took place here. Then we made 3 of the 8 brass rubbings on display. Visited the loos. Before eventually wending our way through the dark dank woodland walk with it's trail of curiosities
Really great place to visit. Free car park and free to enter. There is an excellent visitor centre with lots of children's activities and inexpensive food and drinks. The castle ruins are fabulous and lots of nice walks in the woods surrounding.
Really good castle visitor centre, great staff and nice for a picnic and trip.
Lovely friendly staff who informed us of the castle's history and took time to explain the various routes.
As part of the Vikings weekend here I had a great time, the visitors were great and the organisers were very nice and helpful. Some closer camping would have been nice. The castle is beautiful and the visitor centre although small and gets very busy on show weekends is well stocked and has good information and goodies.
