A lovely visit here today and the sun was shining! Really not many people were about which was a great bonus! The volunteers that greeted us as we entered very helpful, in the house they were knowledgeable of their rooms where they were, just a super day! I know the children's museum is there but also the amount of lawn games for children and adults was good! Plenty for everyone!
Three big kids went for a visit. Two of us had been before. The children's museum was fantastic. Brought back a lot of memories. As a doll collector, I obviously loved the dolls and doll houses 😍. The Hall was brilliant, I couldn't remember much from my first visit. It was good seeing the conservation work happening. The guides are friendly and eager to share their knowledge. A fabulous day, weather was great, which was handy for a walk around the grounds. Well maintained and spring has sprung. Tulips in bloom and blossom on the trees, perfect. Usual N.T facilities. Added bonus of sensory areas for those that need it. Loads of activities for the kids. A great family day out. The car park is on the opposite side of the road, do take care when crossing.
Loverly little walk, dog friends nice views. National trust members so it was free to go in. We didnt go into the building. All facilities on site. Site is clean and lots of parking over the road
I visited this NT property 10 years ago , it was average then and has since had a re-brand to become the children's country house . It has a children's museum of childhood which will provoke memories of your own childhood, but the stately home has been dumbed down to aim at children , who now treat it as one big play ground with seeming little control from their parents. Rooms filled with dress up clothes, toys and inane comments about paintings. Even worse at this time of year are the many often large Christmas trees hiding any joy left that hadn't already been sucked out of the place. If you are a family with kids you may enjoy it, but for the rest of us who treasure our history watching it being treated with such disdain is heartbreaking and the NT should be ashamed.
Having here visited as a child on a school trip, when tried not to giggle too much when the teacher in the Victorian schoolroom told us off and also pretended to be a Victorian child chimney sweep, it was fun to return, this time with my own children. Worryingly some of the toys we had as children are now in the museum and all generations will find this interesting.
