The Comedy Carpet is a remarkable 2,200 m² work of public art located in front of Blackpool Tower, created by artist Gordon Young in collaboration with Why Not Associates. This extraordinary installation features over 160,000 granite letters embedded into concrete, pushing the boundaries of typography and public art to their limits. The carpet celebrates the history of comedy, referencing the work of more than 1,000 comedians and comedy writers. It showcases jokes, songs, and catchphrases spanning from the early days of variety entertainment to contemporary comedy, creating a visual tribute to those who have made the nation laugh. Commissioned by Blackpool Council as part of a comprehensive seafront regeneration project, the £2.6m installation was funded by CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) through its Sea Change programme. The work serves as both a remarkable public art installation and a stage celebrating entertainment itself. Suitable for all ages, the outdoor venue is free to access and offers a unique family-friendly experience combining art, history, and humor.

Could spend days reading the jokes. Best spot for taking photos of the Tower too. If visiting Blackpool, this is a must see, but you probably won't miss it anyway.

Awesome attraction !! Absolutely amazing for any comedy fans - older or more modern! Has lots of references from different shows and skits. Quite a big area too meaning you could read and explore for ages.

Comedy Carpet is a really good place to take photos of Blackpool Tower. You can also go down a few steps to access the long beach. Also, it is near the town centre so you can take photos of the tower after your shopping.
