Such a beautiful peaceful place in a hidden valley. We've been a few times since we happened upon a sign for it between lockdowns. Such interesting trees and plants & of course the blue poppies (in bloom when we went). Enthusiastic staff. They've upgraded the paths recently and the new part of the arboretum is filling out now. Cafe with yummy food & plant sales also.
One of my happy places. Love to visit at least once a year & always hope to catch the rhododendrons in full bloom. It certainly didn't disappoint - a riot of colours & scents in the air. It was so hot today we'd have welcomed more benches, especially in the shadier spots in the garden. Also more plants from the garden such as some of the stunning rhododendron & magnolias that you grow for sale in the plant shop please. Other than that I can't fault it. I love this place!
Stunningly beautiful. Visited on a perfect day and this place just screams serenity. I think you need at a minimum 2-3 hours here, though you could easily just spend the day here leisurely taking everything in. There are so many lovely little paths filled with hidden visual treasures. The landscape, art and nature all just melt together in harmony. I like how the art can be purchased. It ranges from a couple of hundred to thousands of pounds, but I like how it is actually supporting the artist community. It's like browsing an outdoor at gallery. Sometimes you need to spend the time to read the detail behind the piece to fully appreciate it. Cons: the cafe was ok. Selection was mediocre and a little overpriced. I felt tickets were also overpriced at £16 per person. There are toilets near the entrance, but that's it really. On the other side of the garden that have a porta cabin, but... well, not pleasant as expected. Considering the price of the tickets I think it could do with better facilities on this point. I very nearly knocked this down a star, but the garden is really really lovely.
Absolutely fantastic place to visit. It’s huge, the gardens when we visited in late May were amazing, so many colours and scents. Beautiful place to walk round, you could spend hours here. There’s a tea room and children’s playground. The sculptures are fascinating, some very arty, others are based on animals, there are huge ponds, lots of uphill and downhill sections. You can buy an annual ticket which makes sense if you can get here through the seasons and admire trees and shrubs as they change throughout the year. There’s loads of routes around the park, try to get round them all as the views are fantastic.
These gardens are exceptional and awe-inspiring. At this time of year, the rhododendrons and azaleas are blooming, and the visual impact is amazing. The gardens offer 45 acres of woodland, grass, lake and embankments in full flower. There are around 190 sculptures on show, large and small, some with huge visual impact, many permanent but others for sale. It is a great place for walks, with plenty of seats to rest and soak up the atmosphere. Nice cafe/restaurant with good food and coffee. We will certainly visit again, easily worth the hour's drive to get there. Definitely a must-see at this time of year.
