Love it! Step into the world of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and immerse yourself in an era of mystery, deduction and wit. The museum does a superb job of bringing both the period and the Sherlock Holmes stories to life, with fascinating exhibits and plenty of attention to detail. A thoroughly worthwhile visit for fans of the books and anyone interested in Victorian London. I would recommend booking tickets in advance, as it can be very busy.
If you're in London, visiting the Sherlock Holmes Museum is definitely worth it 🕵️♂️ The museum is quite small, but that’s exactly what makes it special. Every room is packed with details that truly take you back to Victorian London and into the world of Sherlock Holmes. 👉 Tip: take your time and go for a guided tour. With a guide, the story really comes to life—it’s not just about walking through rooms, it becomes a full experience where you feel like part of the story. You can rush through it, but if you slow down a bit, it turns into a memorable and genuinely enjoyable visit.
Excellent little museum that will really appeal to Sherlock Holmes fans, situated in an early 19th century townhouse that's been laid out with tremendous care to faithfully recreate the atmosphere of Holmes' Victorian home. The museum offers an immersive experience, from arriving outside to be greeted by a traditional "policeman", to exploring the atmospheric rooms rich with period decoration and furnishings. The guide was enthusiastic, engaging and happy to answer questions. The upper floor houses an exhibition, covering the background behind some of the best known stories, and the different actors who have played the role over the decades. The museum is open 09:30 to 18:00, with last entries at 17:30. I'd recommend allowing about an hour to get a good look at all the rooms and fully appreciate the details. There's a gift shop downstairs stocked with Sherlock Holmes themed memorabilia. At the time of our visit in early 2026, adult tickets were about £20, with small reductions for concessions. It's not cheap, but the attention to detail and enthusiasm of the guide meant it felt like we got our money's worth. Few museums I've visited have given such an authentic feeling of exploring a period property, doubly impressive considering this one was only ever fictional!
Overall, a very good experience. When you think of London, Sherlock Holmes certainly comes to mind. I will say, being the actual home/office, it is certainly small. You will not be in there very long, as there are timed entries and you will find yourself in a room with quite a few people. Looking for a certain shot, you can get it if you wait and find the sweet spot between groups. You do get a little story in the first and second room on the first floor, after that you are on your own. I would like to remind people who buy tickets in advance, you have to go in the museum gift shop to the right, go to the cashier, show your ticket, and then you get your actual ticket to get in. Once you have the ticket, go back outside and talk to the "policeman" outside to see what queue to get in for the next tour. I will say that the gift shop is excellent - a definite stop as part of your tour. I really did enjoy walking through the house in each of their rooms. Very neat trying to imagine them at work in this setting. Again, it is a very good spot to take in this bit of history. Thanks.
In November my long-standing dream finally came true — I visited the Sherlock Holmes Museum at the legendary 221B Baker Street 🕵️♂️✨ As someone who grew up reading every story and watching every adaptation, it was an unforgettable experience. Stepping inside felt like walking directly into the pages of Arthur Conan Doyle’s world: the Victorian rooms, the famous study, Holmes’s violin, his pipe, and even Dr. Watson’s armchair — every detail brought the stories to life. 🔎 Helpful tips for your visit: • The museum is open daily around 9:30 am–6 pm (last entry ~5:30 pm), so plan to arrive early for a quieter experience. • Tickets are usually bought on site at the gift shop first and then you queue to enter the house — there’s no strict timed entry unless you book online. • Expect to spend about 45 min to 1.5 hours exploring — longer if you love details! • The museum is just a short walk from Baker Street Tube station, making it easy to reach by public transport. • Don’t miss the gift shop — great literary souvenirs and Sherlock memorabilia. For true fans, it’s more than a museum — it’s stepping into Holmes’s world. Seeing the recreated rooms and objects I’ve imagined for years was magical 💛 I left with a full heart and stronger love for the detective than ever.
