Visited to see the Japanese Print block exhibition and spent a lovely day here. The gallary staff are friendly and helpful and the space within the building is easy to navigate. The Japanese prints are exceptional and was surprised to see so many of them the story of how women were portrayed in art was interesting and thought provoking. We visited on one of the hottest days of the year so the air conditioning was gratefully received! There are some lovely gardens around the museum and a surprisingly well priced museum shop where you can pick up some bits to remind yourself of the experience. The hands on activities were also great. 10/10

Went to the Japanese exhibition here. While it was a little pricey, everything was amazing. Lots of information about the history, so many beautiful prints to look at. An amazing experience all around. The rest of the museum is cool too, a wide variety of different art styles and artists.

An excellent art gallery right in the centre of York. We mainly went for the Japanese wood block print special exhibition , but the general galleries were really well thought out and interesting. Fewer paintings , and more sculpture and ceramics with a fabulous garden as well. A great cafe and not one but two shops! Really good and well worth the admission price.

Came during the Japanese Art Print exhibition, which showed some very nice artworks of the Japanese prints. It is a very small exhibition so the artwork only takes an hour or so to look at. There was a print making station which was quite fun to do so. There were some pretty interesting ceramics to look at on the first floor but it’s a pretty small area. I do recommend coming in pairs or alone as probably younger children are not too keen on observing these artworks as it won’t interest them. However there are small spaces with sofas to sit around on the first and benches on ground floor.

Exceeded expectations. The size of gallery is deceptively large and the quality of art on display is superb. The Japanese woodwork exhibition was fantastic. Really enjoyed it. I found it easy to navigate, it was busy, but not too crowded. The information provided with the artwork was well written. Upstairs there is a nice selection and variety of art on display. Ranging from ~800 years ago to the modern age. The type of artwork includes paintings, sculptures and ceramics. On the ground floor there is a small compact, but comfortable cafe. There is a gift store on the ground floor (which tends to match the exhibition on display, for example there was a variety of The Great Wave themed items for purchase. There is also another ceramics store on the upper floor. All in all, it's well worth a visit. If you visit exhibitions often it's worth considering to purchase an annual art pass.
