It's a long, sloping shingle and dark sand beach backed by a Victorian and Edwardian promenade. The promenade is a focal point of the town, featuring a pier, a bandstand, and traditional seaside attractions like donkey rides. North Beach is a great spot for walking, jogging, and enjoying the classic seaside atmosphere. During the summer, it has a lifeguard service. South Beach is a bit quieter than North Beach. It's a gently sloping sand and shingle beach located between the castle and the harbor breakwater. South Beach is a favorite for experienced surfers, and it's also a good place to spot dolphins and porpoises. The beach and surrounding area are great for coastal walks, offering views of the harbor and the nearby Pen Dinas hill fort. South Beach also has a lifeguard service in the summer.

I had the pleasure of visiting Aberystwyth Beach with my family late this October, and it was truly the highlight of our trip. While many people flock to the coast in the heat of summer, there is something profoundly peaceful and atmospheric about South Marine Terrace during the autumn. ​ ​Tranquil Atmosphere, At this time of year, the beach loses the summer crowds but keeps all of its charm. It was the perfect setting for a quiet family stroll where we could actually hear the waves and enjoy the fresh sea air. ​The vista looking out from S Marine Terrace is breathtaking. The contrast between the rugged coastline and the colorful Victorian architecture lining the promenade creates a postcard-perfect backdrop. ​It’s a lovely, safe spot for children to explore. Whether you’re pebble hunting or just watching the famous Aberystwyth starlings begin their murmurations at dusk, there is plenty of natural beauty to keep everyone engaged. ​ Being right along the terrace, you’re just steps away from local amenities while still feeling like you’ve found a quiet corner of the world. ​If you are looking for a place to decompress and reconnect with nature, this is it. Even on a crisp October day, the beauty of this beach is undeniable. ​Tip: If you visit in late October like we did, try to stay for the sunset. The colors over the Irish Sea are absolutely spectacular!

The beach is quite different from most others, with a mix of stones and pebbles instead of soft sand. I picked up a small stone as a souvenir. There were pigeons and seagulls around, and the cold sea breeze makes walking here refreshing and peaceful. What I found interesting is that, in the past, traveling circuses brought elephants here, and they were taken into the sea at this beach for bathing. Old photographs of elephants bathing at Aberystwyth still exist, which adds a unique historical character to the place. Overall, a calm beach with a distinctive feel and an unusual bit of history.
