Visit websiteThis palace of the prince bishops is truly beautiful and educational. Once home to the second most powerful person in England, it's now a museum and the bishop of Durham official office. Was especially impressed by the depth, scope and wisdom of the Faith Museum. Everyone should visit this incredible place.
Beautiful! They have put so much thought into the displays here- I thought I knew a lot! Really engaging and all the staff there were friendly and very knowledgeable. There was some modern art here I did not expect and was fantastic! Look for the rooms of Wagner paintings. Overall very tranquil and cool on a hot day. My one down side… the cafe staff were lovely and helpful and the food was great (and the tea) but the coffee was not. Avoid the coffee, it has no taste- but the ice cream does!
I was during Christmas in Auckland palace and it was beautiful, calm and inspiring experience. I specially liked the chapel with beautiful Christmas music on the background and people who work there - if you ask something, they are ready to share with you all their knowledge. The cafe inside is nice and food is tasty, the toilets are clean, and despite the weekend the place wasn't crowded at all.
Absolute gem, beautifully restored and presented, excellent information panels, but the room guides are quite exceptional - so well informed and interesting. The cafe and shop are first class too, and there’s so much more to see and discover, including the magnificent walled garden and Faith Museum. There’s so much more to see in Bishop Auckland market place, too. A whole day, minimum, is required!
Interesting house, garden and grounds to explore. Cafe had limited choices when we visited on a Saturday lunchtime and no gluten free options as they had run out of jacket potatoes so we went into town.
