Botanical Gardens

Bath, United Kingdom•4.6(871)•Botanical Garden, City Park

Explore one of the finest limestone plant collections in the country across 136 years of beautifully curated gardens, complete with woodland, rock gardens, and a replica Roman temple.

Located in the northwest corner of Royal Victoria Park, less than a mile from Bath City Centre, the Botanical Gardens offer families a free outdoor attraction featuring one of the finest collections of plants on limestone in the country. Created in 1840 and formally established in 1887, the gardens showcase an impressive array of choice trees, shrubs, a fine herbaceous border, rock garden and pool, scented walk, and a collection of old shrub roses. A particular highlight is a replica Roman temple, originally the city's exhibit at the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley in 1924. The gardens are fully accessible with tarmac paths throughout, making them ideal for families with pushchairs and visitors of all ages from infants upwards. The Great Dell, added during the gardens' centenary in 1987, transforms a disused quarry into a woodland garden featuring an impressive collection of conifers and additional plant specimens. With multiple access points, excellent public transport connections, and nearby parking options, the Botanical Gardens provide a peaceful, educational setting where families can enjoy nature, learn about plants, and experience one of Bath's most delightful green spaces.

A nice garden to go to for a slow walk, full of many cute squirrels willing to get close. :) I expected a better plant variety, but it was still enjoyable and worth visiting. There is a stand nearby for tea/coffee if anyone should want something to drink. Would return!

A photography walk last weekend around these wonderful gardens. A free (secret) attraction in Bath. Great coffee shop too.

Beautiful Victorian gardens with magnificent trees, water features and ornamental bridges; an oasis of calm not far from the city centre. The gardens are very well kept, with good paths and benches to sit and enjoy the surroundings. Wonderful on my first visit in October when the autumn colours were at their finest, and just as lovely in May with plenty of spring flowers and roses blooming. The Great Dell, a repurposed former quarry with a wooded trail, is worth a quick look while visiting. A café and toilet facilities are located outside the gardens in Royal Victoria Park.

A park with Lebanese Cedar, and Portuguese laurels. Quite a calm and peaceful walk. There isn't a huge variety of plants though so it can get boring very fast. Regardless worth a visit!

What a beautiful place to come and relax on a sunny day. The gardens occupy a discreet fenced area of the larger park with nice little winding paths and plenty of shaded benches where you can sit and listen to the birds singing. The gardens are well manicured with a nice variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. Free to visit and around 25 min walk from the town centre.
