Brightlingsea Beach is a Blue Flag award-winning sandy beach located on the River Colne, steeped in seafaring history as one of the Cinque Ports. The beach features a safe designated paddling area perfect for young children, with lifeguard wardens on duty from May half-term through the end of summer holidays (11am–5pm). The promenade runs along Western Promenade next to Bateman's Tower, a historic listed building that once served as a bathing house, offering sheltered seating and scenic views. Families can enjoy a range of activities including a nature trail along the site of an old railway line to Alresford Creek, beach hut views, and various sports and leisure facilities along the promenade. The venue is pushchair-friendly with level paved surfaces and multiple access points, including a slope by Batemans Café and ramps at car parks. Batemans Café provides refreshments, and Brightlingsea Lido offers additional food and drink services. The beach is dog-friendly from October to April (dogs must be on leads on the promenade), with comprehensive facilities including public toilets with disabled access, baby changing facilities, and changing places provision. Over 300 parking spaces are available at Western Promenade Grass Car Park. The area is accessible for all users and welcomes families with children of all ages.

If you ever want a quieter English seaside experience away from the overly touristy beaches, I’d really recommend visiting Brightlingsea Beach. It has this calm, nostalgic atmosphere with colorful beach huts, long coastal walks, and a very local feel that makes it different from the bigger beach towns in England. Walking along the promenade with the sea breeze and seeing little sailing boats around the harbor feels incredibly peaceful. What I liked most is that it still feels authentic and not overly commercialized. You can sit by the water, watch the tide change, and just enjoy a slow afternoon. If you like quiet coastal towns with a bit of old English charm, this place is definitely worth adding to your list.

Quaint, picturesque, quiet, couple of cafes along Promenade Way towards the marshes, couple of pubs, Fish n Chips in the old part.

A good beach, we visited in January on a nice day. Beach is good, playground is great, there is a skate park. Plenty or parking, some of it free. Two cafes. Will go back in summer.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the feel, the looks and the warmth of Brightlingsea Beach. There is plenty to see and do, from the beach it is a short walk to the centre of town. Personally I was taken by the beach huts, beach houses. So much love has gone in to personalising and maintaining these structures. Brightlingsea Beach has it. 🌻
