Excellent free museum and gallery. The curation and written explanations are what this museum stand out. Instead of the usual boring descriptions, the captions thoughtfully explain exhibits in a way that's easy to understand. With some exhibits, it poses thoughtful questions. I appreciated the inclusivity in showcasing diverse artists and perspectives including women and people of colour. A must visit - oh and there's a Banksy piece (he's from Bristol).

It's a wonderful museum, we spent a few great hours in there. There's something for everyone whatever be your interest. Spread across three floors, with a lift for equal access, it has a collections from all over the world. An ancient Egyptian display to Chinese jade household items, old English art to modern interactive pieces, antique silver artifacts to old English crockery, model aircraft to local tapestry, gemstones of all kinds to a timeline of evolution with fossils of flora and fauna, taxidermy birds and mammals both current and extinct, and a lot more. With a lovely cafe, great seating and open spaces, a nice gift shop - this free to enter museum is a must visit for all history and culture lovers.

It's free so don't be a rat and donate or purchase something at the shop, it's big and it's one of thouse museums all in one: geology, fossils, natural history, modern art.....i want to point out some really remarkable ichtiosaurs fossils and the scelidosaurs...didn't know about them and they are really so well preserved....what i didn't like though is that the egyptian collection don't have a detail explanation below the items, you have to use this tactil panel to look for the date and explanation of every single item, first of all there is only one for each showcase wich may comprise several items so it's not only about having to go back to the panel every time you are interested in something but try to imagine on a busy day several people looking for info...i don't think it's practical. They have cafe, toilets, lockerooms....

Absolutely brilliant exhibitions. Free to enter but packed with so much to look at. Our fav was the dinosaur fossils. There was also geography, Egyptian, art and nature exhibits. Staff were lovely and there's a reasonably priced cafe on site. Decent toilet facilities and a gift shop.

Fabulous museum and much bigger and varied than we had expected. It is very well spaced out in a lovely building which itself had some marvellous architectural features. There is a great collection of natural history exhibits, paintings, silverware, porcelain and pottery. The Bristol Box plane was great hanging from the ceiling 😀 There is also a lovely looking cafe and shop. Although there were quite a few people it felt relaxed and calm. We will definitely pop back when we have more time
