Visit websiteVisited yesterday after six years - what a difference! A fabulous new sympathetic extension has been built to house a wonderful coffee shop with full facilities. Excellent staff and a lovely welcome. The original Bishop’s Palace building has been renovated yet still has the feel of its original purpose. The curated pieces are well displayed with informative, easy-to-read plaques. I loved the link between old and new pieces especially the ceramics. This year’s “Romantic Wales” exhibition, although small, is perfect to give a glimpse of that period in history and how the Welsh landscape & mythology fed into the wonderful artistic talent of that period. I found Turner’s meticulous notebook of particular fascination. The exterior of the museum has been as carefully renovated, with plenty of parking inside and outside its walls. There is a large lawned garden to one side with a fabulous monkey puzzle tree. Benches are scattered outside for restful, contemplative moments. The museum is also at the start of the Towy Valley cycle/walking path which wanders all the way to Llandeilo. Great for stretching one’s legs after eating something nice at the museum. Entrance is free although I’m sure patrons would be happy to contribute, as much as they can afford, with donations to keep this wonderful place alive. A highly recommended venue.
Who knew this hidden gem held such an impressive display? I have spent years ignoring the museum, walking the beautiful grounds and enjoying the fabulous coffee shop but today, waiting for a friend, discovered the stunning displays, exhibitions and gallery. It's not huge but it is well worth taking the time to visit and support.
Lovely walk around grounds, the smell of sweet peas as you walked around the grounds were strong and delightful to sit amongst. Cafe clean and welcoming, food nice and drinks hot. Dogs welcome. Unfortunately museum was shut , so a good reason to return
Even though a couple of rooms were being renovated when we visited it was still a truly fascinating place to visit and it FREE to go in . Lots of fascinating Welsh history here. And large grounds to explore . Give it a look see you won't be disappointed. Their gluten free cake was an awsome lemon and ginger a rare treat and pleasant change from the usual chocolate brownie. 5 stars guys and the cake was perfect .don't miss the beautifully chapel in there is loved seeing the old harmoniums in there .
A very informative and interesting museum. A good place to visit for some local history with useful displays and a quiz and treasure hunt for the children, although we did it too 😁 The staff were very friendly and there is a nice cafe on site which seems very popular. We went in December so didn't see much outside but I imagine it it's a good place to walk in the grounds. Would visit again if I was in the area. And it's free 👍
