A lovely place to visit. Not only is the castle nice to walk round but the whole park is beautiful as well. It could do with a few more directional signs though.

A fantastic castle ruin with stunning views across the surrounding countryside. It’s well worth combining with a visit to nearby Newton House if you’re planning a day out. The castle is very well preserved, and although restoration work is currently taking place, (August 2026) it doesn’t detract from the experience. There are informative displays explaining what work is being carried out and why, which adds to the visit. There’s also a lovely woodland walk leading up to the castle, making it an enjoyable place to explore.

Well worth the extra walking.. let down by the cafe in the house not being free to access.. Smash take away cafe ok but not range of foods.

Absolutely beautiful castle. As others have said, stunning views all round. We paid £6 car park entry; which is certainly reasonable. The walk to the castle is on a reasonably steep gravel/mud type path. This isn't suitable in any way for wheelchairs. The walk takes a comfortable 15-20 minutes - if you don't stop to admire the beautiful woods with obvious den making areas for younger kids and teenagers (?). Unfortunately, there is no indication that only assistance 🐕‍🦺 dogs are allowed in the castle, until you come to the sign at the castle entrance. I may have got this wrong and there may have been more signs but we parked in the overflow carpark and walked straight down the path to the castle. There is a small cafe and toilets in the main car park. We didn't visit the manor house but it did look pretty impressive. There are also gardens which you can visit. We were on a castle hunt and had another one to visit fairly close by. I knocked a star off for no clear signage that dogs weren't allowed in the castle. To be honest, there were quite a few dogs in the castle grounds that were clearly not assistance dogs so we took ours in... (Not great I know).

A Hidden Welsh Gem Dinefwr is an absolute must-visit. The experience starts with a lovely, scenic walk from the car park—which is a great perk if you’re a National Trust or Cadw member (free entry/parking), otherwise, it’s a reasonable £6 for the day. The estate is huge, with multiple walking trails that lead you through ancient parkland. On the grounds, you’ll find Newton House, a beautiful manor you can explore to get a taste of the estate's grander history. The real highlight, however, is Dinefwr Castle itself. It’s incredibly well-preserved and adventurous; you can actually climb the towers and walk along the high walls. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views over the Tywi Valley. It’s peaceful, atmospheric, and easily one of the best castle experiences in Wales.
