The last of 3 castles visited this holiday, but not the least ! We'd expected a quick visit here, but, again, found it so interesting. On arrival it appears fairly bare, but once exploring, there's loads to see and do. Great passageways to wander, lots of information boards, and 3 floors to explore. Plenty of parking (free for EH members for 3 hrs / £1.80 an hr otherwise) no height barrier. Free after 6.00pm. Only a 5 min walk from town. Little gift shop, toilets etc. Coffee machine. Great views across the sea.

English Heritage run site with free parking for members in the adjacent car park. Wheelchair accessible entrance however you would be limited to the one level. Toilets on-site. Lots to read and interact with from the very educational focused site. Plenty to explore on the various levels with amazing views from the battlements. Certainly allow a couple of hours at the very least. Very similar rotundal design to it's sister down the road at Walmer, another of the Cinque Ports.

Lovely little castle, took about an hour to walk round, £1.80 per hour car park fee, we used an English Heritage free pass. Was worth the walk round.

At Deal Castle you will discover much about Henry VIII and his influence on the protection of this corner of England. If you love castle construction methods and firepower, this is the place for you. By exploring the castle's lower levels in particular, you can get a real sense of the military purpose for which it was built.

Deal Castle is a historic coastal fortress located in the seaside town of Deal in southeast England. It is one of the best-preserved Tudor artillery forts built by Henry VIII in the 16th century. Constructed between 1539 and 1540 as part of the King’s Device defence programme, it was designed to protect the Downs anchorage and the English coast from potential invasions by France or the Holy Roman Empire.
