A lovely green space with real historical charm, being England’s first public park and all 🌳🏛️ The layout is grand and spacious, perfect for a slow wander, a picnic, or letting the kids burn off some steam. Some areas could do with a bit more TLC, but the flower beds and mature trees more than make up for it. It’s a proper local favourite and a nice escape from the bustle of Derby city centre. Grab a coffee nearby and take a stroll if you’re in the area ☕🌷

This park has so much potential and it’s such a lovely, green space right in the middle of the city. The grounds are beautiful, there are some really nice trees and gardens, the lake is a nice feature, and it’s great that it’s open to everyone. It’s a good spot for a walk, to sit and relax, or for kids to play, and it feels really historic and charming. But honestly, the reason it’s not 5 stars is that there are just way too many skeptical characters hanging around. It can feel quite uncomfortable or unsafe, especially later in the day or if you’re walking through alone. Groups loitering, drinking, or acting suspiciously really ruin the atmosphere and stop people from enjoying it properly. It would be brilliant if security or patrols were more regular so everyone could feel welcome. It’s still a nice park, but definitely better visited in groups or earlier in the day.

A welcome green space amidst urbanisation. Lots of mature trees and some good playground equipment. However, the botanical house is quite small and was empty. The cafe appeared to be permanently closed. Be careful when driving away. My satnav led into Reginald Street which is closed to traffic during morning school drop off and afternoon pick up. The fine for violation is £70 although half that if paid off straight away.

So quiet and peaceful. Clean and tidy with very friendly squirrels playing. I took my tea in there and sat on a bench in the sun. Couldn't hear nearby busy Normanton Road at all.
