Could possibly be the worst leisure centre in Bristol. Membership is around 45£, the gym upstairs is constantly full of young children in large groups taking hours on equipment and leaving the gym messy. And the equipment is forever breaking and taking months to be fixed. My direct debit didn’t go through correctly one time so they added a £20 late fee after trying to pay it the same day. The car parking situation is very dodgy. They do not own the car park so if you forget to enter your car reg you will get fined £100 by smartparking which the leisure centre do not care about. Overall, we poor experience.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am giving 5 stars because of the wonderful people who work here. The ladies at the reception are always kind and welcoming, the young woman at the bar is lovely, and all the swimming instructors are fantastic. My daughter has been attending swimming lessons here for more than five years, and we have always appreciated the friendly and supportive environment. However, I am extremely disappointed by what happened today. After their swimming lessons, my daughter and a few of her classmates, all children between 5 and 8 years old, spent about 10 minutes playing on the inflatable, as they often do when lessons finish around 6:45–6:50 pm. A young man working at the bar suddenly shouted very loudly at all of the children. The way he spoke to them was so aggressive that it frightened my daughter and left her in tears. This was not a calm request or a polite reminder; it was a completely inappropriate way to address such young children. As a parent, I found this very upsetting. What disappoints me most is that my daughter is now afraid to return to her swimming lessons because she worries that the same man might shout again. I honestly do not know whether we will renew her lessons if she cannot move past this experience and understand that it was hopefully an isolated incident. I want to be clear that I am not complaining because the children were asked to stop playing. The issue is the way it was done. His manner of shouting was unnecessarily aggressive and verbally intimidating, especially towards a group of young children. I would like to make it clear that this experience does not reflect the excellent work of the reception staff, the swimming instructors, or the other employees who have always treated us with kindness and respect. We have been coming here for over five years and have always had positive experiences, which is why this incident was so shocking and disappointing. I sincerely hope this matter will be addressed, because no child should leave a swimming lesson feeling scared and upset after being shouted at by a member of staff. Without this incident, my experience would have remained entirely positive.
Well, tried the 3 day free pass..Came only one time and after 2h had enough. Swimming pool of a nice size but very loud. There are kids and teenagers training all around you.Coaches are shouting to them, a nightmare.Changing rooms outdated and filthy.I do not understand how people in full clothing are allowed to enter the water - absolutely unhygienic.Gym not too bad but busy even on a Friday evening when most of the gyms are empty. Staff polite.
Hengrove Park Leisure Centre is a great place for fitness, swimming, and family activities in Bristol. The facilities are spacious and well organised, with a good pool area, gym, and plenty of classes on offer. It’s especially handy for families, and the staff are generally friendly and helpful. A solid local leisure centre with lots to do.
The gym facilities themselves okay. However, the membership process is frustrating. The £10 introductory offer is not clearly explained, it effectively commits you to a second month unless you cancel immediately, which isn’t obvious when signing up. I’ve now spent nearly an hour on the phone just trying to cancel, which shouldn’t be this difficult. The gym is also extremely busy during peak hours. It is overcrowded, particularly as younger users are allowed in at reduced rates, which makes it harder to actually use the equipment.
