Joe's Alpaca Walks - North Yorkshire

Aislaby, United Kingdom•5(37)•Farm, Wildlife Center

Guide alpacas and llamas on scenic countryside walks across farmland on the edge of the North York Moors, suitable for ages 8+.

Joe's Alpaca & Llama Walks offers families an interactive outdoor experience based on a working farm near Pickering, North Yorkshire, positioned on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Participants lead their own alpacas or llamas on guided walks across farmland, lasting approximately one hour, with each experience beginning with a briefing and introduction to the animals. Walks accommodate both children (aged 8+) and adults, with flexible pairing options: one person can lead a single alpaca, two people can share one alpaca, or two adults can walk with two llamas. The venue provides all necessary instruction and risk assessment procedures to ensure participant safety. Suitable walking footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are essential, as all walks take place outdoors on uneven farmland. Operating seasonally from April through November on weekends only, the venue offers an intimate way for families to connect with animals while enjoying the natural landscape. Gift vouchers are available and valid for 12 months, making this an ideal activity for special occasions. Bookings are managed exclusively through the online shop with advance payment required.

Had an amazing experience walking the alpacas especially James (see photos below), started with an informative talk about alpacas and llamas, conversations throughout the experience about the animals on the land, how they came to the farm etc which was interesting to hear. I would highly recommend as they are lovely people who run the experience and just overall a fantastic experience!

We stayed in the Belle tent as a family of four (two young boys, 7 and 4) and had an amazing experience. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left Joe and Vikki couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. The tent itself is so spacious and the bed felt like we were sleeping on a cloud. We were provided with firelighters, kindling and logs to use with the stove in the tent and the fire pit outside as well as a bag of charcoal to use with the provided BBQ. A really helpful folder provided with necessary information but also really lovely extras like the names of the animals all around us on the farm. The wonderful breakfast delivered to the tent in the morning really topped off an excellent little night away!

I’m so glad that I won this as a raffle prize and initially felt that I was being somewhat adventurous. However, I found that it’s a fun, enjoyable experience with an easy stroll. Alpacas 🦙 are easy to lead as they tend to go at their own slow speed. It was great. Joe gave us easy to understand information about these fascinating animals, clear handling instructions, and our 3 generations outing was thoroughly enjoyed by us all. The walk had its amusing bits, because alpacas can be placid and characterful. Feeding the animals at the end was both fun and safe. It was definitely a great experience for all of us. Also an amused passing cyclist stopped and said, “now I’ve seen it all” - us 3 walking our alpacas 🦙🦙🦙 😂. Mine is called Colin.

I bought a gift voucher for 2 adults and 1 alpaca as a birthday gift. I contacted Joe to book the experience, he was really helpful and managed to fit us in within a few days. Today, 14th April we attended the farm in North Yorkshire and throughly enjoyed our morning with the Alpaca’s. We walked Bubbles, he was one of the older male alpaca’s, he walked really well for our 2 mile trek. Throughout the walk Joe was very engaging and informative, providing the whole group with quirky facts, and his vast knowledge of these adorable animals.

Had a lovely morning here as a surprise birthday gift from my husband. Joe is friendly and knowledgeable and the Alpacas are gorgeous. My husband and I walked with Bubbles, we had a stop along the way so they could graze and for photographs, then back to the farm to feed the Alpacas a treat. A wonderful experience
