Knaresborough castle is a beautiful place to enjoy the view of the river Nidd and the viaduct. We were there as the sun was setting and it was truly stunning, and very special to be there with my daughter and special friends

One of my favourite views from Knaresborough Castle. Five minutes walk from the town centre and market. Lots of shops and cafes. You can also walk down through pleasant gardens to the side of the river Nidd where there is an accessible path which runs between two major roads into the town. There are car parks at both ends of this path. There are cafes by the river and also boats for hire. The railway station is to the right of the viaduct at the bottom end of the town.

Castle is quite small and doesn’t have much information at all inside but climbing up the winding, ancient staircase is very cool and it’s lovely to imagine what this castle once looked like. The ticket includes the museum in the courthouse next door and you can find a booklet for sale for £1 (should be included in ticket price!) that tells all about the castle’s fascinating history. The museum itself is a lot of plaques and old-fashioned but I liked learning the history, especially the castle’s role in the Civil War and the artefacts! Very nice staff member.

Lovely spot to stop and have a bit of lunch outside, the museum and castle where very informative about the local history. It was very affordable and didn't take too long to go around. Staff were helpful and friendly definitely worth a look before a trip to mother shiptons cave or the row boats on the nidd.

Truly feels like a postcard come to life. Perched right on the clifftop, the ruins have a really romantic, historic feel to them, but it’s the scenery that usually steals the show for most people. The view from the castle grounds is easily the best in town. You get that famous look straight down over the Victorian viaduct and the River Nidd—it's the perfect spot for photos, especially when the rowing boats are out on the water. The grounds are beautifully kept and provide a really peaceful setting for a stroll or a sit-down on the grass to just take in the landscape. It’s located right in the heart of Knaresborough, making it a very easy walk from the local shops and cafes if you’re spending the day in town.
