Great day out round the coal mining museum brought back a some old memories my grandson found it very interesting ..staff very helpful food and drink very nice just make sure the pit is open if your going down the pit it was a training day when we went and you couldn't go down the mine

This is a great free museum exploring mining heritage across Yorkshire and the wider country. The kids loved exploring the exhibitions, interactive areas and dressing up and it had plenty to entertain the adults in our group too. It was a good weather day so we were able to explore the woodland area and pony stables as well as spending some time in the adventure playground. There weren't any guided tours or underground experiences available on the day we visited but there was still plenty to see. All of this was free - well worth an afternoon trip to come here.

We popped while passing but had the dog with us, so was told we can’t take dog inside, but the man at the entrance then said oh go on I will let you because she is so cute😂. So went in but wasn’t really of our interest, so just had a quick look around and left. Very helpful staff but think you need a n interest in the mining past to enjoy.

Really really good. Informative, and thoughtfully put out. The guides were great, Bob and Roy doing the pit head baths were superb. The right mix of information and light hearted delivery. Anyone with any interest in mining or local history should come here. Well worth the 90 minutes trip for us.

This is a from an experience here earlier in 2025. A fantastic museum that gives us a glimpse into coal mining. For those around in the time of mining it will take you back, a real nostalgic look back at our magnificent history. A brilliant day out with an opportunity to go down the pit and see for yourself. Try it and see why it held so a standing in society.
